Bengal bounty: Luthfar Ahmed and his team from Bengal Brasserie on the Ormeau Road in South Belfast opened up their doors on Christmas Day to serve up tasty Indian fare — gratis — to locals. Muslims showing the true spirit of Christmas and, indeed, the true spirit of Belfast. Their generosity was replicated at the Welcome Centre on the Falls where weatherman Barra Best joined the kitchen crew, at the Presbyterian Meeting Point on the Lisburn Road where Keith and his fellow-volunteers were scrambling to get extra chairs to cater for the Christmas dinner overflow, and at Common Grounds Café of CityLife Church where asylum seekers found a refuge reminiscent of the original Christmas story. It doesn't really get much better than this for those who retain a huge optimism for the future Belfast. Nollaig shona agus athbhliain faoi mhaise. Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year to all friends of Belfast.
