Letter from America

During the World Police and Fire Games, I met with a marvellous group of US firefighters. This letter came in from one of them today, Vincent Plover.

Hello Lord Mayor,

Please forgive the extreme tardiness of this Thank You note, which by description, should never, ever be tardy!  Such as it is with life these days, so much going on all the time that we cannot seem to stop, take a breath, and complete the process when an idea comes into your head.

That being said, I was one of the two firefighters you were kind enough to agree to meet on an extremely busy day last July.

You may recall, although it was unbeknownst to we two, that you had a pretty rough morning, followed by a sore legged 10K run in the company of a large group of Police and Firefighter competitors.

It was not until later that evening upon watching on the “telly” (and in the Belfast Telegraph next morning) that the complete picture of what “your” day had been like.  Well let me just say many months later, that I’ve shared the story of Your Most Warm Welcome to us. You really made our day, and I will remember meeting you and your gracious manner for the rest of my life. I hope you are well and have enjoyed the Christmas and New Year season. God Bless You and I hope to have the pleasure of your company again. I will leave my email and phone number, please call if you are in NYC perhaps my girlfriend Rosie and I could  treat you to dinner.

Best regards Slainte,

Vincent Plover, FDNY
