City of Chicago
It’s high-time we treated you to a musical interlude again and since I am just back from Chicago, I am obliged to treat you to. Christy Moore rendition of his brother Luka Bloom’s ‘City of Chicago’ with its evocative lyrics and haunting tune.
But I had also had the pleasure in the Windy City of meeting traditional musician Dennis Cahill whose collaboration with fiddler Martin Hayes (and, more recently, with Iarla Ó Lionaird in The Gloaming) has thrilled audiences across the globe.
A native of Chicago, Dennis symbolises the enduring contribution of Irish America to Irish culture. No wonder some suggest the very soul of Ireland resides in Irish America!
Here’s a sampling of Hayes and Cahill in action.
