Here Comes the Summer

Here Comes the Summer

June 9, 2013 Music 0 Comments

I promised you new music but with this blistering weather I had no choice this week but to make Here Comes the Summer by the Undertones as my mayoral anthem.

Released in 1979 and written by John O’Neill, the song captured the bursting energy, explosive joy and fierce vitality which set the Derry punk-rockers apart from their peers. It certainly brightened up our days at Queen’s students in what was a dreary, war-torn and often desolate Belfast.

I had the good fortune to see the Undertones in the McMordie hall at the uni and am still convinced ‘I Wanna Wanna Be a Male Model’ was dedicated to me.

We are probably provoking the internet copyright gods by putting up this file but as Mickey Bradley, Undertone and legend, says, better to ask forgiveness than permission.
