‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’
I had the great good fortune to visit May Street Presbyterian Church on Monday night to join the Belfast Community Gospel Choir for their fortnightly rehearsal. I did sing though I’ve been told I shouldn’t wait up for the call.
God loves a trier, however, and I certainly did try to hold my own during ‘Oh, Happy Day’. The highlight for me, though, was being serenaded before my departure with ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’.
“All your dreams are on the way
See how they shine
If you need a friend
I’m sailing right behind
LIke a Bridge over Troubled Water
I will ease your mind.”
Powerful sentiment that and no less than would be expected by the choir’s irrepressible conductor Marie Lacey. She epitomises the power, the passion and the promise of the future Belfast — and her guys can belt out a tune too.
Here they are (above) on YouTube with Bridge Over Troubled Water and I’m planning to catch them at the Christmas Concert on 14 December.
