Abhainn an t-Sluaigh

Bhí briseadh beag goirid agam ó mo dhualgaisí Méarachta an tseachtain seo chuaigh thart nuair a thug mé m’aghaidh ar Albain.

Ba sin an chéad uair dom san Obán, ar Oileán na Muile agus ar Oileán Í.

I gcead do mo chairde at Tourism Ireland, shíl mé a mhór d’Albain agus tá súil agam a bheith ar ais san am atá romhainn. Ba bhreá liom gan amhras cuairt a thabhairt ar an ceantair ina bhfuil an Ghaidligh a labhairt mar cé go raibh an chomharthaíocht láidir sna dúichí a raibh mé iontu, ní raibh an Ghaidhlig le cluinstin.

Go dtí sin, seo ceol na seachtaine seo, Abhainn an t-Sluaigh leis an sár-racbhanna Runrig. Bain sult as.

I broke for the Border, the Scottish Borders last week and made it as far as Oban and the Isle of Mull during a great break. With all due respect to my pals in Tourism Ireland, I was bowled over by the beauty and sheer scale of Scotland. I even made it over to Iona for a quick foray before the President arrived.

I hope to return when my mayoral duties have been lifted from me, perhaps the next time I’ll make it to the areas where Gaidhlig is spoken. For while there was ample signage in Gaidhlig across the areas I visited,  didn’t hear the language spoken.

To compensate therefore, and to whet your appetite for a future visit to the wonderful Sabhal Mór Ostaig college on Skye, here’s the incomparable Runrig with Abhainn an t-Sluaigh.
