A Celt in the Cotton Club

Billed as “a Celt in the Cotton Club”, Irish American Tara O’Grady is an absurdly talented troubadour who makes Irish classics and newly-written anthems alike “swing like hell”.

In June 2013 she performed this marvellous anthem to Belfast at the New York-New Belfast conference in Manhattan. She recalled how ‘In Belfast Tonight’ was inspired by a night spent in the eponymous city with songbird Gráinne Holland, herself an alumna of the New York-New Belfast conference.

For me, the song captures the verve and vivacity of the future Belfast and deserves to be song everywhere the craic is celebrated. Sláinte mhór, a Tara.
